Straight images
AO1:
These images are a few of my straight images that have not been edited yet, they are a few of the images that are my best. I feel I achieved the idea of framing devices within this shoot, because I have many images that relate back to some of my researched photographers and image bank. For this shoot I will be attempting some physical edits, I have decided to do it for this shoot because I feel I have more of a chance to be creative using these photographs. I will be using a London newspaper and cutting out a few article parts and placing them into an image, to show that this is London and these are the events that are documented. For this shoot, I have focused more on Vivian Maier - her photos include mirrors and windows which I have included in my work.
This image is of my subject looking into a glass window which has jewellery on show. This image was shot using ISO 800, F4, 1/40. I like this image because it presents a luxury product, these necklaces and bracelets are all on show for pedestrians to awe at and want. The bright light highlight the jewellery is a method of attracting the public, as their eyes will be drawn to where the light is pointing. This image however is inspired by Lee Friedlander, he has a similar concept in one of his images of a mannequin - his concept for this image was to advertise the idea that in the shop windows there are expensive things that we can look at but not touch. The framing device here is the shop window as it acts as a barrier between the person and the product. To edit this image I could, make the person a bit brighter so she does not blend with the darkness and is hidden as she is part of this image as well, also I could make the light brighter to emphasise the meaning more. The image to the right is Lee Friedlander's work that I mentioned in the paragraph above. He has more like this in his selection of photographs. This image appealed to me because I like how you can also see the reflections of the roads/streets, comparing the outside to inside.
This image was photographed in the Boots store in the London Liverpool Street train station. In the first image, I have photographed my subject looking at herself in the mirror, I have photographed this because it acts as a stereotypical images. These images were shot using ISO 100, F4, 1/40-50. The lady looking at herself to make sure she looks okay. The second image is a self portrait image of me and my subject in a bigger mirror to the one above. Both of these images are inspired by Vivian Maier, because she had similar images to this. In her images (to the right) she has photographed herself in black and white and she has used reflections. The first image to the right is of Vivian and a girl - which I have done with me and my subject, the difference is the environment we are in, it shows how times have changed and everything is different. My surrounding is make up while hers seems to be representing strong. Her images present more of how she is different to others.
These were both taken in the same time period, they are both of the same train door. These two images were shot using ISO 800 (right) & 400 (left), F3.5, 1/45. I was inspired by one of my image bank images. In that image it was similar to this except there were people on the other side. I like this image because it gives a sense of loneliness as it gives the effect of that I'm the only one on the train as there is no one in front of me. This (image to the right) was the image I was inspired by, this image too me creates a very ghostly feel for the viewer because the colours are quite dim and eery, it gives the viewer a feel of the atmosphere. This seems to be late at night as everyone is sitting and minding their own business, everyone has a seat which is uncommon during the day as more people would be travelling.
This image was taken just outside of the train station, I managed to have a decisive moment and I photographed this man looking at the camera and perfectly centre in between this statue. This image was shot using ISO 800, F3.5, 1/350. This was not inspired by anyone in particular, just the concept of framing someone within something else. This is a statue that you are able to walk through as there are many gaps, like this one, I stood in the centre and waited until someone was framed. To edit this image I will be physically experimenting with it, I will be cutting out newspaper articles and putting them in replacement of the black statue, so the man is framed by the news.

Example edits..
These three images represent the process of physically editing this image. I have framed the goat by using a bronze felt pen so the goat is the main attraction for the viewer and attention is on it. I then cut out pieces of newspaper that I measured to fit into the squares of statue the goat is standing on. I did this because as the goat is a statue it is there for people to look at - I got my subject to look at goat as if he is interested in it - I put the newspaper articles on the statue because then more people are aware of what is happening in the news. I wanted this to represent the fact that some people can be oblivious to what is happening and can completely ignore the news but some will take time and admire/read the written. The framing device in this is the bronze outline, to show it is more significant to this photo. The image below is the final outcome of this physical experiment:
Other editing ideas..
I will be doing more physical edits like the one above, because I think it is a very interesting concept that I have created. One other edit I will be doing is Rankin inspired (component two - research log), I will be cutting out pieces of white paper and creating a pattern on an image. I will also be doing more computer edits, these will include ideas that I have done before but I will also be coming up with new ideas in the process. I will be editing in black and white as this creates more of a clean series, where most images are the same because of the filter.

I found this shoot a success because I had a wide range of images to edit. My work does represent framing devices because I have captured multiple images that show some sort of frame or I have edited it so there is a creative frame. With this shoot I have experimented more with my editing, I managed to do physical edits which I am pleased with because they were my own idea and I was not copying another photographer, although the last physical edit was inspired by Rankin. I am able to experiment on photoshop as well, but I do do the same sort of editing methods so I tried to do something different and I feel I have done that. For this shoot I wanted to just concentrate on the people and structures in London because this would be something different to what I usually do. I enjoyed doing my shoots in London because it's a different scenery to what I usually do - which is the town park or town centre.
